The Climate-smart Näsby project

The Climate-smart Näsby project aims to reduce the climate impact on Näsby, Kristainstad Sweden. In this EU-funded project, several local actors are working to reduce the carbon footprint from the construction process and transportation sector, as well as develop a model for a green and sustainable neighborhood. Kristianstad is growing while the climate impact on urban development processes needs to decrease. In the project, which spans over two years and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Climate-smart Näsby project aims to make the Näsby sub-area and the entire Kristianstad municipality pioneers in climate-smart community development.
The project is a collaboration between Kristianstad Municipality, Kristianstad University, and Krinova Incubator & Science Park. The business sector is involved through a local partnership and a testbed in Näsby. The testbed will be an environment where companies, academia, and other actors can collaborate and learn from each other to jointly develop a carbon-neutral neighborhood.
The model for the Näsby neighborhood, which the project is developing, is planned to serve as a basis for future urban development projects in Kristianstad and inspire other municipalities and regions. In the long run, this will result in reduced climate impact from the construction and transportation sectors, two sectors that contribute significantly to emissions in Sweden.
The project is ongoing from 2021 to 2023 and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
