DIEGO REPETTO

On Tuesday, July 5, at the Ca’ del lupo restaurant in Montelupo Albese, summer headquarters of the Alba Rotary Club, the first convivial meeting of the 2022-23 Rotary year featured architect Diego Repetto with a trip to the Fifth Landscape. The Alba native has an important resume: he has been curator of several events between art and architecture in the Italian pavilion of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, has participated in several international conferences, is a member of the Italian section of the International Association of Art Critics, the Landscape Research Laboratory, the German Ideal Spaces Working Group and the scientific committee of the Memorandum of Understanding for the Enhancement and Conservation of Works of Art of World Interest.

Introduced by President Piera Arata, Diego Repetto illustrated the concepts of Fifth Landscape and Land lighting, identifying new approaches between art and architecture in the field of landscape and then presenting the projects he has carried out in the field. The architect, artist, and landscape critic explained how the fifth landscape-which follows the first, second, and third, which are increasingly anthropized, and the fourth, shaped by artistic initiative-identifies a landscape, often ephemeral, with a more immersive dimension, linked to the use of multimedia technologies, light, and sound, so as to create unusual, engaging, and alienating sensory perceptions.

The Fifth Landscape uses land lighting techniques, with scenic architectural lighting projects, which develop new nocturnal landscapes, stimuli for living, for short periods, presenting the landscape in a novel way, through temporary installations. He then presented some of his innovative works, such as Vesuvius in Naples, Resized Volcano, as well as more traditional works such as the Memorial Park of the Fallen Partisans at Bricco of Neive or La Vigna in the Maddalena courtyard. An interesting evening that allowed us to discover the new frontiers of landscape. guiding us to discover this new dimension of architecture.
