Symposium on Housing, Guimaraes/Portugal
The first in a series of releases on this housing symposium to be presented by Ideal Spaces during the summer 2025
From May 29-31, a symposium on Housing was held in the UNESCO City of Guimaraes/Portugal, together with the Guimaraes City Council and Zegnea Group. Ideal Spaces has to offer special thanks to Ana Cotter from the City Council and Hugo Lobo and Mariana Rodrigues from Zegnea Group in enabling and delivering this indepth symposium. The combination of international and Portuguese experts offered indepth insights on the existing housing crisis. From Ideal Spaces, there were speakers from architecture, housing, new communal approaches, the need for public places and to conceptualize the city as an ensemble again. Portugal was represented by speakers from the government, amongst others the Secretary of State for Housing, the Lord Mayor of Guimaraes, Ana Cotter from the City Council; the Portuguese private sector, architects, and professors from different Portuguese universities, amongst others.
This symposium was a first step as the program delivered numerous points of view on housing, community, city and citizenship, collective consciousness, and the future of society and community. This symposium should be seen as a precedent to future symposia dealing with the overall topic of housing, community, and society.
